PROFILE OF DR. (MRS) AGATHA NWANDO IGBOKWE (nee UDEAGWU) On December 15, 1950, Dr. (Mrs) Agatha Nwando Igbokwe was born, as the last of six children, to the family of Chief Chinyelugo Joseph & Mrs Philomena Udeagwu of Umuoli village in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State of Nigeria. Chief Udeagwu was a staff of the then P.W.D., Port Harcourt, while the wife was a petty trader. Both are now of blessed memory. Dr (Mrs) Igbokwe had her primary school education at St. Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, Aguma, Umuoji. Her secondary school career at Abbot Girls’ Secondary School, Ihiala, was interrupted by the Nigeria-Biafra civil war of 1967-70. She completed the School Certificate programme at Mater Amabilis Girls’ Secondary School, Umuoji, in 1970, and thereafter proceeded to Loretto Teachers’ Training College, Adazi, for the Teachers’ Grade II Certificate. On completion of the training in July 1973, she taught in a few primary schools before joining the Staff School of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1983. She retired in December 2010 on attainment of compulsory retirement age of sixty years. In addition to other educational qualifications, Dr. (Mrs) Igbokwe has B.Ed (Hons), Guidance & Counselling; M.Ed and Ph.D. in Adult Education, with specialization in Community Development, all from the University of Nigeria. While in the service of the University of Nigeria, she was honoured with the BEST TEACHER award on the two distinct occasions the award was organized. When the nomenclature of the scheme was dropped and substituted with TEACHER OF THE YEAR award, she was, once again, to the glory of God, bestowed with the honour on the two occasions the exercise took place. With due sense of modesty, responsibility and humility, it is pertinent to mention that the School has a teaching staff population of about one hundred. A devout, dedicated and practicing Christian, she belongs to several Catholic Church sodalities, including St. Anthony of Padua and Holy Infant Jesus of Prague. Dr. (Mrs) Igbokwe was happily married to Chief Chinyelugo Laz Igbokwe of Umunri, Nsukwu, Abatete. By the grace of God, the marriage is blessed with children and grand children.
